We just launched our new camera feature.

You can now add your own image instead of using our WearThis stock image.

We’re also soon launching a background removal tool to go along with the camera feature. You’ll be able to snap a photo and quickly delete out the background from the photo leaving only the clothing item from your closet.

We’ve also added a link on the sign-in page to reset your password in case you forgot it.

All new and exciting features but there are tons more where that came from. Stay tuned!

How to Style Your Denim Jacket in Three Different Ways

dark blue denim jacket

So you have a Denim Jacket and you’re not sure how to wear it.

I have a denim jacket from the 90s. It is huge, and the typical style for that time. It’s a really nice quality jacket and carries with it some good memories. Instead of donating it and buying something more trendy and up-to-date I decided to take it to the tailor and have it fitted and restyled. They did a great job. Now how to wear it?

Luckily I used WearThisApp to help me come up with some ideas.

Using clothing I already own in my closet the app helped create outfits that I never thought to put together and I found new uses for my denim jacket in three different outfit categories.

Casual or Business Casual

Night Life

I can substitute my denim jacket instead of the vest depending on the weather. I can now rock out or have a night out with the girls in this cute outfit. Perfect for breezy summer nights!

What are other ways you can style a jean jacket (or vest)?

The WEAR THIS Outfit Generator Story

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I was going to be an ‘app developer,’ but I guess stranger things have happened.  The development of the WEAR THIS outfit generator all started by chance…let me paint the picture for you:

New Year’s day 2016 I was sitting on my couch in the evening scrolling through Facebook.  I happened upon a post in a cleaning & organization group that I follow (side note-back in 2005 when I joined Facebook I would have never thought I would be in a group about cleaning). Someone posted about an app that she used to helped her to organize her closet and it allowed her to create outfits from her clothing.  I thought to myself ‘Oh that’s so cool, the app tells you what outfits you can wear from your own closet!

I looked into the app a little and it turns out that it didn’t do what I thought it did…the user actually had to create their own outfits, which was still cool but didn’t help me because I wanted the decision making process of putting together an outfit to be eliminated or at least shortened. So I went down the wormhole of fashion apps looking for a basic outfit generator app and it turns out there wasn’t one that I could find in the Android marketplace.

A couple of days later I mentioned the app idea to my creative and talented cousin Maria.  Luckily she thought it was a good idea and we decided to partner up and form a small business, then find a developer to code our app.

We found someone that did coding part time and worked closely with him on the app design, features and fashion ‘rules.’

Functions of WEAR THIS

We knew the main basic function we wanted the app to be able to do was to generate an outfit based on what the user had told us she owned.  We decided to start with this function and launch the app, then add on features from there. The best way for the app to give an outfit suggestion was to have a database of basic clothing that the user could match her wardrobe with.  Since we knew the outfits we wanted to suggest were basic easy-to-wear outfits, we decided that the details of the user’s clothes wouldn’t matter that much.  For example, the orange blouse pictured in our database wouldn’t be the same orange blouse our user owned, but we could still pair it with jeans and heels and the outfit would work.

It’s now two years later and we’re finally ready to launch! In the past two years we’ve been super busy perfecting the outfit rules (based on up-to-date trends), adding and coloring images, finding issues in the test files, and, oh yeah, getting married, having babies, renovating houses, and growing our families (no wonder the development process has taken so long!).

Well, we’re now in the final stages of development and we’re so excited to share this project with everyone.  Right now the app is an outfit generator that answers the question “What should I wear today?” with “WEAR THIS!” We have so many exciting ideas and plans for the future and we hope you’ll join us for the crazy, well-dressed ride! Check out our website www.wearthisapp.com for the download link for Android devices soon!

New Fashion App

A New Fashion App is Hitting the Play Store

We’ve been so busy this past year developing a fashion app for Android Devices. The app, called ‘WEAR THIS,’ helps women answer the question ‘What should I wear today?

This app is different from other fashion applications on the marketplace because it takes into consideration what you already own in your own closet and suggests basic outfits to wear.  All you have to do is tell the app what you own and it does the rest! Learn more about the app.

We’re now at the point in development to test the application.  If you have an Android device and you’re interested in helping us out by beta testing WEAR THIS, please comment below and we’ll send you the app.

After downloading

Please create an account (so you can access your closet across multiple devices) and get started!

  1. Tell the app your workplace dress code in the “Profile” section
  2. Add clothing to your closet
  3. Get outfit suggestions

To add clothing, simply match your wardrobe to the clothing in our database.  Don’t worry if the styles/colors/patterns don’t match exactly.  The app just needs to know the basics of what you own.  Because we’re not requiring users to take pictures of each article of clothing they own, the important step of adding your clothing is very quick.  Most users are able to add their entire wardrobe to the app in under 15 minutes.

After you play around in the app for a while, please let us know if you come across any issues such as missing pictures, typos, app crashes, etc. These are the types of issues we will need to fix before adding the app to the Google Play Store.

Please keep in mind that this is a first generation version of the application.  We have a lot of big plans and updates for WEAR THIS in the future, including outfit suggestions based on weather, shopping links, adding your own pictures, closet sharing, saving outfits and choosing a specific article of clothing to build an outfit around.  If you have any other cool ideas for future versions of the app, we’d love to hear them in the comments below!

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!
